Why do we focus on building relationships?

Last night at the end of season awards ceremony, one of the 12 year old boys indicated how much the relationships he built this year meant to him when he sadly asked a leader: "Does this mean I won't get to see you again until next year?"

Thankfully, the answer to that question is "no" because the boy and leader both participate in the Monday night mentoring program. We'll get to continue investing…

We are right in the middle of our 3rd wrestling season and it has never gone better. Behavior of the children continues to improve. (only 2 fights so far and only a few suspensions) When I look around the room I see dozens of kids whose behavior is dramatically different then this time a year ago. The wrestling season was outstanding. 73 children came out to try the sport of wrestling for our team. 32 completed the entire season (every practice and tournament) and received a warrior award at the season ending banquet. We averaged 12 placers a tournament over the 9 tournaments we went to this past season. Highlighted by 12 placers at novice state and 3 champions. 10 wrestlers qualified for the open state tournament by placing at regionals and one placed at the state tournament. 51… Continue
